Itinerary

Day 1

We gather for dinner at our hotel in Central London where we meet our specialist Historian and listen to a presentation from a leading academic on the arrival of the USAAF in England and the experiences of American Airman in England during World War 2.

Day 2

Today we will literally walk in the footsteps of US Service personnel in wartime London. We will be taking a Blitz Walk through the areas of the city at the heart of the Blitz and the centre of the war in Europe. You can expect to see the building used by Eisenhower to plan D day, the memorial the the US Pilots that flew in the RAF Eagle Squadrons during the Battle of Britain and numerous other places frequented by Americans during the war. Our day culminates with a memorable visit to the Cabinet War Rooms beneath Whitehall, from here Churchill ran the British war effort and reinforced his special relationship with President Roosevelt.

Day 3

Our day begins at the newly opened Battle of Britain Bunker at Uxbridge, a chance to see a wartime Fighter Control Room that was at the centre of the maelstrom that almost engulfed the UK in 1940. After Lunch we then travel by Luxury coach to the RAF Museum at Hendon. This is a world class Air Museum packed with WW2 Aircraft, many of which were flown by US Pilots or built in the USA and flown by the RAF in combat. We then head to our hotel in East Anglia

Day 4

Our day begins with a Guided Walking Tour of the ancient City of Cambridge led by a local Guide. Visit the Eagle pub with USAAF graffiti. Then, after Lunch we drive a short distance out of the city to visit the 30 Acre American Military Cemetery at Madingley. Here we can take the opportunity to pay our respects to the 3,811 Americans buried here and more than 5.000 who have no known grave but are listed on the Memorial.

Day 5

Our Destination today is the huge Imperial War Museum site located on the wartime airfield at Duxford. This is a full day of Aviation history that includes the opportunity to visit the largest collection of USAF aircraft in Europe. The American Air Museum is an integral part of the vast IWM Museum, and it serves to commemorate the USAAF sacrifice in WW2 and beyond. Our programme allows for a full day exploring all of the hangars and a behind the scenes tour of the Aircraft Restoration projects at Duxford.

Day 6

Today we are going off the beaten track and heading into Suffolk and Norfolk with a series of visits to some of the many abandoned wartime Airfields that once resounded to the roar of the engines of US Bomb Groups and their Fighter Escort Wings. Sure to be a memorable day as we follow the likes of Col Jimmy Stewart, Glenn Miller and Bob Hope. We will also have time to reflect on the experiences of the Pilots, Mechanics and Support Staff who kept the aircraft flying and made the US Eighth Air Force, Mighty!

Day 7

There can be no better way to complete our amazing week of WW2 history than to actually see the aircraft that we have been talking about in the sky over the wartime airfield at Duxford. We will be attending the Airshow. This is the biggest gathering of WW2 aircraft in Europe, we will see Mustangs, Spitfires, B17 Flying Fortress, Hurricanes, the RAF Lancaster and a whole host of vintage war birds. Return to London
